Los Angeles, California – Sizhe Weng, a 30-year-old doctoral student at the University of Southern California (USC), has been charged with multiple counts of drugging and raping several women between 2021 and 2024. Weng, also known as Steven Weng, was arrested on August 28, 2025, and is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. He faces a total of eight felony counts, which include one count of forcible rape, two counts of sodomy by controlled substance or anesthesia, one count of rape by controlled substance, and four counts of sexual penetration by controlled substance or anesthesia.

Weng has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted on all counts, he could potentially face a prison term ranging from 25 years to life, along with an additional 56 years. The investigation into Weng began in January 2025 after law enforcement received a tip from authorities in Germany, where he had also spent time. The Los Angeles Police Department is collaborating with the FBI and German Federal Criminal Police on this ongoing investigation.

During his arrest, evidence implicating Weng was recovered from his residence. Authorities allege that Weng used incapacitating drugs on his victims, which he discreetly placed in their food or drinks. The case has raised significant concerns as allegations of this nature can deeply affect the victims and create a ripple effect in the community.

In response to the allegations, USC has stated that it is fully cooperating with the LAPD. Out of precaution, the university has barred Weng from campus access. Although USC has not received reports from individuals claiming to be victims of Weng, the institution is committed to providing a safe environment for its community.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman underscored the importance of supporting victims and ensuring their voices are heard in the judicial process. Authorities are also concerned that there may be additional victims and are actively seeking further information from the public to aid in the investigation.

Weng’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 14, 2026. This hearing will determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

The seriousness of these charges highlights the ongoing issue of sexual violence and misconduct within academic environments. As investigations continue, it is crucial for those affected to receive appropriate support and for law enforcement to carry out their responsibilities in seeking justice.

The case stands as a reminder of the importance of awareness and preventive measures against such acts. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any information related to the investigation, especially if they believe they may have information leading to other potential victims.
