The victim, identified as 50-year-old Luis Medrano, was engaged in digging a trench when water began to fill the area. Consequently, the trench partially collapsed, resulting in a significant amount of dirt falling on Medrano and entrapping him beneath it. Emergency teams, including the Baltimore County Fire Department, responded to the scene just minutes after the report was made, arriving by 8:25 a.m.

Upon their arrival, responders found Medrano critically injured and quickly undertook efforts to extract him from the trench. However, despite their swift action, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, at 8:39 a.m.

Responses to the incident included specialized teams from the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH), which has since opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the trench collapse.
