An empty poolside scene reflecting a tragic event.
Dr. Neha Gupta, a pediatrician from Oklahoma, has been arrested for the alleged murder of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. Following a vacation incident in Florida where Gupta claimed her daughter drowned, an autopsy revealed evidence contradicting this claim, raising suspicions of foul play. Body camera footage of Gupta’s arrest has surfaced, adding to the controversial nature of the case, which intersects with ongoing family legal disputes. Gupta has pleaded not guilty and is set for a court hearing soon.
Dr. Neha Gupta, a 36-year-old pediatrician from Oklahoma City, faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the tragic death of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. The incident occurred while the pair was vacationing at a short-term rental home in El Portal, Florida, on June 27, 2025.
Gupta allegedly called 911 early that morning, claiming that her daughter had drowned in the pool. When emergency responders arrived, they discovered Aria unresponsive in the water. Despite immediate transport to a local hospital, Aria was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
In the wake of this devastating event, an autopsy revealed key findings that raised serious questions about the circumstances of Aria’s death. Notably, water was not found in her lungs, which contradicts the typical signs of drowning. Furthermore, the autopsy indicated the presence of cuts in Aria’s mouth and bruises on her cheeks, suggesting the possibility of smothering rather than accidental drowning.
These findings prompted law enforcement officials to seek an arrest warrant for Gupta, which was issued after thorough investigative efforts and consultations with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Gupta was arrested at her home in Oklahoma City on July 1, 2025, following the issuance of the warrant. She has since been extradited to Miami-Dade County where she is being held without bond.
Body camera footage from Gupta’s arrest, released by the Oklahoma City Police Department, shows officers forcibly entering her home to apprehend her. Gupta was located hiding in her laundry room and was subdued before being handcuffed.
During the arrest, Gupta’s attorney expressed that she believed an intruder had entered her home and was communicating with 911 when law enforcement arrived. The attorney described the arrest as “extremely violent” for someone whom he claims posed no threat to the community.
As Gupta navigates these serious legal charges, she is also involved in a contentious divorce and custody dispute with her ex-husband, Dr. Saurabh Talathi. Reports indicate that Talathi had expressed concerns regarding Gupta’s mental health, and he was reportedly unaware that his daughter was taken out of state for the vacation. He is currently seeking full custody of their child.
Gupta’s legal team has characterized Aria’s death as a tragic accident. They criticized the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for what they perceive as a hasty conclusion without adequate evidence supporting the charge against Gupta.
A court hearing for Gupta is scheduled for August 7, 2025, where further proceedings regarding the case will take place. While Gupta has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge, the case remains under investigation as authorities continue to evaluate its circumstances.
The case has garnered attention due to its tragic nature and the complex personal and legal relationships involved, highlighting the intersection of family law and criminal justice.
