News Summary

The California high school football season is approaching, with preseason all-section teams announced. Notable players include Mission Viejo’s quarterback Luke Fahey and Mater Dei’s wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt. Players’ prior performances and college prospects influence selections. As teams gear up for tough competitions in the CIF Southern Section, expectations are high for Mission Viejo, especially with their upcoming matches against rivals like Santa Margarita and Folsom, and a promising roster aiming for another strong season.

Mission Viejo – The California high school football season is set to begin in less than six weeks, and early excitement is building with the announcement of the preseason all-section teams. Among the standout players highlighted in these selections are Mission Viejo’s quarterback Luke Fahey and Mater Dei’s wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, both of whom have made their mark in CIF state championship finals.

The preseason all-section or all-area teams feature a 30-player format, reminiscent of the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. Selections are based on the athletes’ performance during the previous season as well as their prospects for college recruitment. Notably, players who have transferred may be excluded if their status has not yet been reported, they haven’t played for their new school, or there is insufficient information available from their prior institution.

As the CIF state lineup of preseason teams unfolds over the coming weeks, various sections across California, including the San Diego Section and the CIFSS Inland Empire, will be covered. With Mission Viejo competing in the challenging Alpha League, expectations are high for the Diablos to deliver another strong season, especially as they gear up to face fierce rivals like St. John Bosco and Mater Dei.

Last season, Luke Fahey showcased exceptional quarterback abilities, sharing duties and contributing to a total of 33 touchdown passes. His impressive passing statistics included 1,638 yards gained, 17 touchdowns scored, and crucially, zero interceptions. Despite being considered one of the most underrated high school quarterbacks in the country, Fahey is set to play a significant role as Mission Viejo aims for success in its upcoming campaign. The Diablos are coming off an impressive record of 10 wins and 1 loss, thanks in part to an excellent nonleague schedule that has positioned them well for league play.

Mission Viejo is gearing up for its season opener against Santa Margarita, followed by subsequent matches against notable teams including Folsom and Lincoln. With their eye on a potential 3-0 record in league play, the team is filled with talent, including key players such as WR Vance Spafford, CB Jeron Jones, WR Jack Junker, and WR Markus Kier.

On the other hand, Mater Dei has also demonstrated strong capabilities as they enter the season with their wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt shining in the spotlight. The Monarchs are among the teams that have earned top seeds for the CIF Southern Section football playoffs, which will feature a total of 218 teams across 14 divisional brackets this year.

As excitement builds within communities and school spirit rises, the upcoming high school football season promises to offer thrilling matchups and competitive play. Fans and athletes alike are looking forward to seeing how teams navigate the league and approach the challenging landscape of the postseason.
