Highlights include St. Xavier Lacrosse’s state title and Badin’s historic flag football championship. The McNicholas volleyball team claimed another championship, while individual standouts like Hannah Powers and Faith Sellet excelled in their respective sports. The construction of new athletic facilities aims to support future generations of athletes, marking a bright future for Cincinnati school sports.

Cincinnati Celebrates Spring Sports Achievements in 2025

Cincinnati high school teams have showcased remarkable talent in the 2025 spring sports season, securing multiple state championships and individual honors across various disciplines. Notably, St. Xavier Lacrosse clinched its first state title since 2018, while Badin made history by winning the flag football state championship in its inaugural season.

State Championships Highlight Teams’ Success

McNicholas volleyball team successfully claimed a state championship for the second consecutive year, showcasing their dominance in the sport. In flag football, Mike Sebastian led Badin to a commendable 13-3 record, taking home the state championship trophy. Individual standout performances were also noted across sports, including Evie Schoolfield of Mount Notre Dame, who averaged three touchdowns per game and propelled her team to a second consecutive city championship and a spot in the state tournament.

Exceptional Individual Achievements

Several athletes received recognition for their outstanding performances. Hannah Powers of Notre Dame Academy was particularly impressive, averaging 5.0 goals per game, the highest in Kentucky, and leading her team to the state semifinals. In lacrosse, Faith Sellet of Seton topped the Cincinnati Girls Greater Catholic League with a remarkable total of 109 goals and has committed to play at the University of Akron. In tennis, Greg Bernadsky from Mason marked an exceptional season with both individual and team state titles.

Successful Fishing and Track Performances

The KHSAA state fishing tournament also saw success, with Covington Catholic’s Brandon Smith and Phoenix Parks finishing ninth and placing in the top ten for the second consecutive year. Doug Lackey helmed the Bishop Brossart Mustangs, leading them to position two boats among the top 35 finishers.

On the track, Lily Parke from Beechwood secured state championships in both the 800 and 1,600-meter runs, shattering state meet records in the process. Azarae Hawkins of Mason dominated the sprints, winning both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Abby Sewell of Mercy McAuley triumphed in district and regional titles for the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs, finishing second in the state meet.

New Facilities for Future Generations

As Cincinnati celebrates the achievements of its spring sports teams, exciting developments are already underway to enhance local athletic facilities. A $16 million sports complex is being constructed at Seton High School, specifically designed to bolster opportunities for female athletes. The complex will feature a turf field, dedicated tennis and pickleball courts, and a two-story athletic center filled with various amenities. Additionally, the first all-girls sports complex in Greater Cincinnati has broken ground, with expectations to open for the fall 2026 sports season.

All-Star Recognitions

The Cincinnati Enquirer has also released its 2025 All-Stars, honoring outstanding contributors across spring sports, not including softball and baseball. Recognitions included phenomenal achievements from players and teams alike, encapsulating the high level of talent present in the Cincinnati area this spring.

Conclusion

With numerous state championships and record-setting performances, the Cincinnati spring sports season of 2025 stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of its athletes. As new facilities begin to emerge, the future looks bright for the next generation of sports talent in the city.
