Born on May 14, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of Robert and Gloria Gocke. Dr. Gocke attended Crespi High School in Encino, California, before pursuing higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, followed by a Master’s degree at California State University, Northridge. He then obtained a Ph.D. from William Lyons University in San Diego, California, solidifying his commitment to education.
Dr. Gocke is survived by his wife, Loren, with whom he shared a marriage of 56 years, and their three children: Jeremy (married to Kris) with grandchildren Lukas, Delaney, Gunnar, and Weston; Jordan (married to Robin) with grandchildren Tyler and Hadley; and daughter Julia with grandchildren Nolan and Reese. He is also survived by eight siblings, many nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son Justin and his parents.
In addition to his family life, Dr. Gocke was passionate about a variety of outdoor activities, including biking, surfing, fishing, reading, paddle boarding, kayaking, traveling, snowboarding, hiking, and camping. He famously explored the rugged roads and trails of the Pacific Coast, Sierra Nevada, Coeur d’Alene, and Sedona, reflecting his love for nature and adventure.
Professionally, Dr. Gocke served as the Superintendent of the Lancaster School District and held positions as the Executive Vice President at Learn 4 Life Charter Concepts. His role as Head of Special Projects in Lancaster saw him actively attract businesses and events to the area, showcasing his dedication to the local economy and community. Dr. Gocke was a man of strong Catholic faith, known for his ability to befriend nearly everyone he encountered, further deepening his connections within the community.
His commitment to service extended to various community organizations, including the Lancaster West Rotary Club, where he won the Governor’s Bell, and initiatives like Streets of Lancaster and IDEA. Additionally, Dr. Gocke authored two children’s books, “Miss Rosie’s Day Off” and “The Cow Who Gave Brown Milk,” both published in 2017, illustrating his love for storytelling and education.
The community remembers Dr. Gocke not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his generous spirit and friendly demeanor. In his honor, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, causes that were significant to him.
