Minco, Oklahoma – A bus carrying members of the Minco High School softball team and coaches overturned late Monday night, resulting in multiple injuries. As of September 9, 2025, several individuals remain hospitalized, prompting shock and concern within the community.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the bus was transporting 18 individuals when the incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on State Highway 152, east of Cogar. Reports indicate that the bus was driven by Cody Schmidt, Minco High School’s head softball coach. The bus swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid colliding with a deer, ultimately striking the animal and rolling over once before landing on its wheels.
Out of the 18 people on board, an adult male is currently in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries. His identity has not been disclosed. Additionally, two juveniles are also reported to have sustained critical injuries. Four individuals were ejected from the bus during the rollover, contributing to the overall toll of injuries that includes one driver and six passengers. Only Coach Schmidt was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and the bus reportedly lacked seatbelts for other passengers.
In addition to those in critical condition, authorities confirmed that two adults and two students suffered non-serious injuries.
