The vehicle involved was a Dodge Durango, driven by 38-year-old Osvaldo Vela from Yonkers, New York. Emergency services pronounced Tucker dead at the scene by approximately 3 a.m. After the accident, Vela sustained minor injuries and was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

In the wake of the incident, I-95 north was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation, with the roadway reopening just before 10 a.m. State police, the Greenwich Fire Department, and the Connecticut Department of Transportation were all present on-site to conduct their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
